Objetivos
 Ofrecer conferencias en donde los participantes interactuen entre ellos.

Programa

Beginning his career in education in 1996 as an elementary school teacher in New York, Gregg continues to this day to motivate, inspire and consult both teachers and students worldwide. He holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Education and Art and an MBA from the Athens University of Business and Economics where he teaches an elective course for the International MBA Program. Gregg has participated in numerous conferences delivering plenaries, workshops and seminars concentrating on Leadership, Coaching, Motivation, and Professional Development. He is currently working for MM Publications as an ELT Academic Consultant and teacher trainer.
The world as we know it is changing at a pace far quicker than we ever imagined…and it’s time to WAKE UP, as you are global agents of change! You must build on your strengths, accept your shortcomings, go on the offense and stop playing defense. We will explore guiding principles of accountability, inner logic, and empathy; the principals that today’s job market is looking for in prospects. One of the hidden duties of English teachers who seek to give students an integral education, is to cover educational gaps. We must develop their reading comprehension skills, their written production, their presentation skills, a positive interaction with others... Ken Robinson asks: Do schools kill creativity? It seems that they do. So, those of us that agree that creative thinking is a must in nowadays world, include in our daily lesson plans, strategies that combine learning goals with strategies to enhance student’s potential for creativity.

On this workshop we will enjoy practicing some of the Thirteen Thinking Tools of the World's Most Creative People as stated by Robert S. Root-Bernstein and some of those described by the most prominent Mexican that worked on creativity: Mauro Rodríguez

Liliana Sánchez is the Country Exams Manager at the British Council Mexico. She holds an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) fromCanterbury Christ Church University.

Liliana has held teaching, training, management and leadership positions at renowned English language and mainstream education schools in Mexico. She has been a

speaker at several Mextesol, LABCI and IATEFL conferences in Mexico, Latin America and the UK.

She was the Cambridge English exams Regional Team Leader for Mexico and

the Caribbean for 7 years and has been a Speaking Examiner of the MainSuite, Young Learners, and Business exams since the year 2000.

Liliana is an ICELT and Delta trainer and assessor and has worked in ELT for nearly three decades now.

Different educational organisations implement Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policies in various ways, but a common factor in all is to make processes and functions accessible to everyone. Such is the case of many examinations boards that have excelled at providing equal opportunities to test takers by accommodating for different abilities, or disabilities as some see them.

In this talk we will look at examples collected from real test sessions where an exams centre has collaborated with different examinations boards to remove barriers for test takers with impairments. Examples of this can be seen where a candidate who is hearing impaired and can only partially read lips was provided a service of sign language, or where a reading test is read to a visually impaired candidate by a trained invigilator. These and other examples of inclusive testing approaches will be used to make a case for the use of similar practices in the classroom, especially in exam preparation courses.

One of the 21st Century skills in language teaching is the use of inclusive practices in the classroom. This talk looks to raise teachers’ awareness of the different inclusive approaches already used in testing that can inform or become common classroom practices when working with students with special educational needs (SENs). In addition, some practical tips to implement EDI with a focus on ‘disability’, based on lessons learnt from running test sessions for SENs, will be presented to illustrate the beneficial impact of washback on today’s changing teaching context.

Andrew Starling is Regional English Content and Portfolio Manager for Pearson HispanoAmerica region.

He has over 20 years of experience in the field of English Language Teaching. Andrew started his career with the Instituto Anglo Mexicano de Cultura (now known as The Anglo) where he was a teacher, teacher trainer, and director of two branches .

He then founded, and was the Academic Director of, RYE SCHOOL OF ENGLISH, a British-English language and cultural school and Authorised Centre for Cambridge English exams in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.

As teacher trainer, Andrew has tutored on the Cambridge Language Assessment ICELT programme and he has also prepared candidates for the Delta Module 1 examination.

Andrew was a Speaking Examiner for Cambridge English exams for around 20 years, and trained teams of examiners in Mexico and Central America.

As a materials writer, Andrew is author of a number of ELT course books.

Language is often viewed in terms of components and presented to learners in an orderly, neat and structured fashion. Items are organised, introduced and analysed progressively from ‘basic’ to ‘advanced’ and language learning is considered to be linear and progressive.

However, language is creative and dynamic, changing and evolving over time and learning a language does not progress in a smooth, linear fashion. Students don’t necessarily learn what is presented, and when describing language ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ can often be rather relative terms.

We should step outside this tidy, structured ‘box’ and look for ways to address this mismatch.

On a daily basis we as educators face many challenges of various natures throughout our careers. Many of us feel overwhelmed or unprepared to cope with these challenges. Why is this the case? In order to find the answer, sometimes it is necessary to take a few steps back to rethink our professional development. We know that our professional development shapes us as efficient and effective educators for our “agents of change” in the classroom but have you ever asked yourself “What kind of teacher am I really?” or “Why do I teach the way I do?”. Together, we will explore various questions that will help us create a “personal framework of reference” to guide us and enable us to face our daily challenges with confidence.

Sanjuana Aurora Ramirez Alvarez

Computer systems engineer, graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya, specialized in emerging technologies for decision-making. Aurora Ramírez worked at the information technologies department giving technical support and also developing web applications for different companies such as Red Cross Celaya, GNVTECH and Alcamare Recycling Group. Aurora is currently working at the ITC’s Language Center teaching English for teenagers.

Lourdes Jasso Montoya

Lourdes Jasso holds a Master Degree in Teaching and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, she holds the ICETL´s Certification from Cambridge University and TESFL from Algonquin College. She is the Associate Degree Business Coordinator at the Bilingual University Laja Bajio. She has been working as an English teacher since 1987 in different places like Instituto Celayense, Universidad Lasallista Benavente, Normal Justo Sierra, Colegio New England, Instituto Tecnologico de Celaya and Universidad Tecnologica Laja Bajío. She has participated in the program of International Mobility for teachers in Canada. She was at the Algonquin College in Ottawa, working with international students from Asia, Europe and Latin America. She is in an International Investigation Program with the RELAYN organization. She has published articles for different Business magazines and books.

Carlos Anastacio Rico Martínez

Rosa Elena Arana Lara

A native speaker, born and raised in the USA, is one of the founding members of Centro de Idiomas, and has been an English instructor and teacher trainer at ITC-CIIT for the past 33 years.

Has been teaching for more than 35 years at all levels and with all group types. Holds ICELT and CELE-UNAM teacher certifications, is a TOEFL applier and has held a Cambridge Vigilator Certification at CAE level.

Being bi-lingual and bi-cultural, Trans-Culturalization as well as the History of Language Development have been two areas of personal interest that evolved during studies taken in the area of cultural anthropology under National Science Foundation auspicious in her hometown of Chicago, and later at UDLAP in the early 1970´s.

Heriberto Rivera Martinez

I studied at the Universidad de Guanajuato the B.A in Enseñanza del Inglés. I attended several other teacher- training courses over 15 years of teaching practice. I am currently working at the UPJR (Universidad Politécnica de Juventino Rosas), the Tecnológico de Celaya Institute language departments.

Besides, I worked for over 10 years at the Universidad de Celaya, and several companies such as Avon, Mabe, Capistrano, and Deacero.

I carried out a research about the importance of Teacher-training, as well as teacher development.

All in all, I am interested in anything related to teaching and learning practice.

I have a BA in ELT (English Language Teaching) from the University of Guanajuato, I´ve been teaching English for 7 years in different levels from preschool to University.

At this time I´m teaching English in a company then, in an elementary school (1st and 6th grade) and in this school I´m in charge of the teachers too.

I used to work in Tecnologico de Celaya and I really enjoy my time there.

Santa Anahí Preciado Ríos

Santa Anahí Preciado Ríos, bachelor in Touristic Administration, holds a CENNI diploma, a TKT certificate, an IELTS certificate and two DELF certifications for French. nine years of experience as an EFL teacher. She works as an English professor in the Language Center in the Centro de Investigación e Inovación Tecnológica at the Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya, where she has worked for seven years. She also teaches French as a Foreign Language in this institution. She is currently working in five other institutions, at secondary school, high school and university levels. She has also taught TOEFL and DELF preparation courses. She is currently working and supporting Colegio Marista as the Language Coordinator. This is the second participation in the Academic Friday.

Andrea Viridiana Rojas Medina

Andrea Rojas is a B.A. in TEFL student at UG. She has worked has an English teacher at ITC since 2016. She has participated in different congresses including MEXTESOL.

José Federico González Gutiérrez

English Teacher at Instituto Tecnologico de Celaya, Educational Psychology Major from Universidad Pedagogica Nacional, 8 years of experience as an English teacher in all levels from Elementary school to College level students and training for company workers in the region.

Luis Enrique Mendoza Solis

Luis Enrique Mendoza Holds a degree in Computer Systems engineering and three language certifications (TOEFL IBT, Zertifikat Deutsch and DELF), he studied at Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya and currently is a German and English teacher in the Language Center, he loves languages and cultural diversity, he has published a paper in the “Pistas Educativas” magazine, and had developed several projects, the most relevant in Kolbenschmidt de Mexico, he has organized the IV scientific and technological dissemination forum that took place at the Tecnológico de Celaya.

She has been working as an English teacher for 19 years; Currently working in “Instituto Cumbres Celaya” and also at the Language Center in the “Instituto Tecnológico de Celaya”; She has been fighting for about 6 years for both animal and human rights so that there be justice for all.
