André Hedlund is an educational psychologist, teacher educator, and international consultant specializing in the Science of Learning, bilingual education, and evidence-informed teaching practice. He holds an MSc in Psychology of Education from the University of Bristol (Chevening Scholar) and has over 20 years of experience in teacher education, academic leadership, and curriculum design. He is the founder of Learning Cosmos, a professional development hub that integrates insights from neuroscience, psychology, and education to support teachers worldwide through courses, ebooks, podcasts, and workshops.

The Science of Learning studies how different branches of psychology, cognitive neuroscience, pedagogy, and andragogy can contribute to teaching and learning. What does the research say about what happens in the brain when we learn effectively? This talk will discuss the 4 evidence-based strategies students of all ages can adopt to improve their learning outcomes.

Joseph Jesus Hills has a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Syracuse University, where he specialized in instructional design, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and critical information literacy. Joseph has lived and worked in South Korea since 2011, where he has taught students of all ages, written and edited educational content, and created other learning tools. Joseph joined e-future in 2022 to assist teachers worldwide in their pursuit of effective and equitable English education.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly entering the ELT classroom, yet many teachers remain unsure how to use it safely, meaningfully, effectively, and in age-appropriate ways. While a wide range of AI-based tools already support adult English learners through grammar correction, writing feedback, and conversational practice, these approaches are not always suitable for primary and secondary learners, whose linguistic, cognitive, and developmental needs are very different.

This session explores practical and realistic ways AI can be used to support fluency development for primary and secondary students without requiring them to interact with AI directly. Participants will examine simple AI tools for speaking and reading practice and consider both the possibilities and limitations of using AI with younger students.

Gloria Bohórquez is a consultant, international lecturer and educator with a B.A. in Languages (UPB) and a Master’s in Didactics (Universidad del Rosario). A former Teacher of the Year (Suffolk, Virginia, 2004) and SIOP-certified specialist, she has extensive experience as a school coordinator and university professor in Bogotá.

Currently, as an Educational Consultant, Gloria mentors schools in their transition to bilingualism. In the past years, her focus is in the practical integration of AI in the classroom, focusing on new trends in education. Her work helps teachers use technology to boost critical thinking and "analog wellness" without losing the human touch in education.

For MS-HS English teachers, Generative AI is a paradox: a powerful personalized tutor or a shortcut that bypasses the linguistic struggle necessary for fluency. This session moves beyond the binary "use or ban" debate to explore a "Human-in-the-Loop" framework. Participants will leave with ethical, actionable strategies to protect student agency and ensure that in the age of algorithms, language learning remains a deeply human practice of reflection and connection.

Alastair Graham-Marr has been working in education in Japan for 36 years. He is a recently retired professor at the Tokyo University of Science. His research interests include the effect of language output on overall language accuracy, the effect of explicit instruction on listening proficiency, and self-determination theory and how skills development can affect intrinsic motivation. He has given workshops in many countries around the world.

Undeveloped listening skills seriously hamper one’s ability to learn a foreign language. Research tells us that explicitly teaching the skills of listening helps students to improve their comprehension abilities, and yet listening is often taught as a series of mini-tests, or even worse, left alone and not directly taught. Research has long shown that the best way to teach listening is to break it up into micro-skills and teach those. This presentation will focus on ways to teach listening that help students develop the ability and confidence to listen and comprehend natural English outside the classroom.

Artificial Intelligence is changing the landscape of education, and English teaching is right in the middle of it. But what does this mean for how students learn and how teachers teach? In this session, we’ll explore what neuroscience and psychology can tell us about the effects of AI on attention, motivation, memory, and critical thinking. We’ll discuss the benefits, the risks, and the unknowns of integrating AI into English classrooms, and how to do so without losing sight of what makes human learning truly powerful.
